Four league outings in season 1973/74 were the extent of Gerry’s Hibernian career. He made his bow in a 3-1 win at Dundee and looked a solid prospect at centre-half, but the competition at Easter Road was too stiff for an inexperienced youngster.

A former Raith Rovers and Montpellier striker, Didier arrived at Easter Road on a 3-month contract at the start of the 2000/2001 season and was an instant sensation. Pacy, direct, and a great goalscorer he was quite simply ‘electric’. After missing a sitter in his debut at Hearts he then bagged braces against both Dundee clubs. Hibs at this stage were ‘flying’ and rarely had a season opened with such optimism.
Sadly Hibs had not signed Didier on a longer contract and as his meteoric rise continued he was snatched away by Celtic. His loss was a tragedy not only for a free scoring Hibs but arguably also for Scottish football as Celtic used him as a wing back rather than as an exciting striker as Alex McLeish had at Easter Road.

In the immediate post-war era Peter Aird was a regular in the Hibernian side. He missed just a single match in the first full season after World War Two but thereafter gradually slipped out of the side. Signed in 1943 from Bowhill Rovers, he moved to East Fife in January 1950.

Raised in the Edinburgh district of Craigmillar, Andy made his Hibs debut against Falkirk as an outside right but really caught the eye when deputising for Willie Ormond on the left wing. Hibs had actually first spotted him when he was with the Army in Ireland and playing for Cliftonville. He joined Hibs in 1955, in September 1959 he headed south to join West Bromwich Albion.

Nicknamed ‘the daddler’ Johnny was a tricky outside-left who gave the club distinguished service for almost a decade. Signed from Queen’s Park in 1945 he could well have been a Hibernian legend had his spell at Easter Road not coincided with the forward line known collectively as ‘The Famous Five’. Aitkenhead did make his mark with Hibs but it would be his 1949 transfer to Motherwell after recovering from a serious leg injury that made his career.
He made his Motherwell bow in a league match on New Year’s Day 1949 and scored twice in the 3-1 win at Albion Rovers. For the following five seasons he was very much a regular and capable of contributing quite a few goals despite his wide berth.
League Cup goals were a speciality of his and it was fitting that he played in the side which beat Hibernian in the 1950 League Cup final at Hampden Park. Indeed en route to Hampden he had notched two goals in the pulsating 4-3 semi-final win against Ayr United. He missed out on a remarkable double that season as the club lost 0-1 to Celtic in the Scottish Cup final. However, he made up for the disappointment by playing in the 1952 team which won Motherwell’s first ever Scottish Cup.
Capped 3 times by the Scottish League, Johnny was a penalty expert and enjoyed a spell in which he netted 40 consecutive penalties. He brought the curtain down on his senior career with a brief spell at neighbouring Hamilton Accies.

Started his career with Hibernian but made his most notable impact on the game whilst with Dundee’ where he won two Scotland caps. He did return to Hibs later in his career but only in an emergency as cover.
Thomson made his Hibs debut in demanding circumstances … against Hearts in a Scottish Cup tie in 1966.
By the time his career came to a close he had played with Dundee, St Johnstone, Hearts and briefly with Meadowbank Thistle on loan.

In season 1958/59 Ken played 5 league games and scored 4 goals. He also scored in the 3-0 home friendly win over Bayern Munich. It is therefore rather surprising that he had such a short Easter Road career.
He was signed from West Calder United in 1958 and was listed as an inside left. After Hibs his career took him to Cowdenbeath, Darlington and Lincoln City.

Season 53/54 saw Bill enter the category marked ‘one game wonders’. His father had played for Hibs and Bill joined the club after having starred for Bishop Auckland at Wembley in the English Amateur Cup final. He was an inside right and stood at the 6 foot mark.

A schoolboy internationalist, Des was lured to Hibs in 1957 from Edinburgh Thistle. Sadly two league outings in 57/58 was the sum total of Des Anderson’s career with Hibs. Although signed as a centre-forward he achieved more as a wing half but he was eventually frustrated by the lack of opportunity at Hibernian and in June 1961 moved south to join Millwall. He spent two seasons in London and made 46 league outings for the Lions.

Signed by Alex McLeish during Hibernian’s brief stint in the First Division, Derek was a journeyman centre-half who figured in six games whilst on loan. The last of his matches, was a 3-3 draw with Ayr United and did not go quite the way Derek had anticipated.
He had played with Kilmarnock and Ayr United prior to his Easter Road adventure. He went to Morton after his loan spell in Edinburgh ended and thereafter had stints with Alloa and Queen of the South.

An internationalist with Trinidad and Tobago, Lyndon joined Hibernian from Joe Public in the summer of 2000; his previous club was the equally exotically named Superstar Rangers. A tricky midfield schemer, Lyndon’s career at Easter Road has never quite taken off and despite some invigorating displays he is still not a permanent feature in the Hibs first eleven. He made his debut against Stenhousemuir in a League Cup tie in August 2000.Lyndon was released in April 2002 and took up the opportunity to train in Belgium.

A teenage sensation with Clyde (whom he joined from East Stirlingshire), Steve spent three years at Shawfield before joining Aberdeen in 1978. He was a huge success at Pittodrie and it cost Tottenham £800,000 to lure him to London. Equally successful at Spurs his next port of call was the mighty Spanish giants Barcelona where he fully justified a then huge transfer fee (£1.5m). He spent a short spell on loan to the less salubrious Blackburn Rovers before Hibernian signed him.
He made his Hibs debut in a Skol Cup tie against Stranraer in August 1988 and scored twice in a 4-0 win. After his stint at Hibs this often under-rated Scotland internationalist enjoyed a brief period as a with an array of clubs – Espanyol, St. Mirren, Reading, Fulham, Ayr United, Clyde, and Dublin based Home Farm.
He later became a successful football agent, managed East Fife, and was also involved in the first bid to save Airdrie in 1999. His c.v. could also include an entry as a director at Portuguese giants Benfica.

Signed in March 2001 from Troyes he had trained with Hibernian at the start of that season but was unable to achieve release from his club. A vastly experienced midfielder he had played for Strasbourg against both Rangers and Liverpool and was a former team-mate of David Zitelli. Starting his career with Nimes he really made his mark at Metz before joining Strasbourg. When he finally arrived at Hibernian the club were heading for 3rd place in the league and the Scottish Cup final and he found it hard to break into a settled side.
A nippy midfielder he was quite willing to ‘put himself about’ and was booked just minutes into his debut. He later earned a degree of notoriety for being sent off at Dundee after spitting at an opponent.

One of the band of players who later managed the club. Bertie had made his name with Celtic as a member of the 1967 Lisbon Lions side and arrived at Easter Road in the early 70s when he was clearly in the veteran stage. However, he was still possessed of a shrewd footballing brain and helped the club win at Ibrox soon after arriving.
His forte, however, was to be coaching and he earned his spurs at Easter Road before going on to make his name as manager of Partick Thistle. His achievement at Firhill was too keep an unfashionable club in the cut-throat 10 club Premier League. This survival success was based largely on a defensive policy and thus when Bertie came to Hibs in May 1981 as boss and adopted these ‘safety first’ tactics he was not always popular. The lynch pin of his success at Partick had been Alan Rough in goals.
