DAVID ZITELLI (1968 -
A quality French striker, signed by Alex McLeish, Zitelli joined Hibernian largely on the back of being very good friends with Franck Sauzee. He had a panache for spectacular goals and scored a match winner against Rangers early on in his Easter Road career. His classy celebrations showed that he knew how to milk the moment and play an audience.
Zitelli, a French B internationalist, had been a notable striker prior to coming to Scotland and had caught British attention when scoring UEFA Cup doubles against both Liverpool and Rangers.
Spectacular goals were a specialty and counters against Dundee (at Dens Park) and Motherwell (at Fir Park) were ‘absolute beauties’. His powerful shooting, and shrewd positional sense, made him a dangerous striker. Qualities he proved when he scored in the 6-2 rout of Hearts as well as the never-to-be-forgotten UEFA Cup classic against AEK Athens.
David left Hibernian in the summer of 2002 and joined Istres in France, and Hibs fans were left wondering just what might have happened had the Zitelli prowess been available a few years earlier. As it was he netted 10 goals in 52 matches as a Hibee.

YANNICK ZAMBERNARDI (1977 -
A strangely inconsistent defender, Zamernardi loved to play the ball out of defence with extravagant and quite ambitious passes. Alas he had an embarrassing habit of sliding dramatically into tackles, if he emerged brandishing the ball them all was well, but when he missed his ‘do or die’ technique was horribly exposed.
Born in Ajaccio on the French island of Corsica he started his senior career with Bastia. Yannick then moved to AC Ajaccio where he impressed sufficiently to earn a move to ES Troyes where he was a team-mate of Freddy Arpinon. Signed as a 24 year old by Bobby Williamson during Hibs disastrous start to the 2002/03 season he made his debut in a 1-2 defeat at Dundee.
His time at Easter Road was short lived and he left Hibs in 2004 to join La Louviere in Belgium. However, he did return to Scotland to play briefly with Dunfermline.
